I. The Project: Nitro Payton: The OG Gas Renaissance
In an era where boutique genetics are often equated with sugary dessert profiles, we decided to radically shift our focus back to the origins. With Nitro Payton (Gary Payton x OG #18), a project has emerged that was designed not for fleeting hype, but for the depth of sensory experience. We wanted to merge the robust structural characteristics of the original PowerzzzUp cut of Gary Payton with the archaic, aggressive gas note of our own OG #18 selection – that profile which significantly brought the wave of fuel notes to Europe in the late 2000s. Nitro Payton is our contribution to the OG Gas Renaissance.
II. Genetic History: A Personal Milestone
Nitro Payton stands on the shoulders of two legends:
- The Gary Payton Base (Original PowerzzzUp/Cookies Cut): As a modern strain, it provides the structural foundation. Known for excellent trichome density and aesthetic brilliance, it offers the base we need for "high-end bag appeal."
- The OG #18 Selection: This selection forms the qualitative core of our work. In August 2009, during a stay in Amsterdam, I first encountered this genetic at the legendary Katsu Coffeeshop. Declared "Talk of the Town" at the time, this experience was a turning point. The oily, earthy gas depth and the full-bodied high were so impactful that immediately after my vacation, I ordered the first seeds – the beginning of intensive work with this lineage, culminating in the selection of our current master phenotype from a batch of 120 original seeds.
III. The Gary Payton Selection: Focus on the "Cookie-Gas" Profile
The foundation of Nitro Payton is the original PowerzzzUp cut. We appreciate this cut for its excellent form, but specifically complemented it with OG #18 to unlock precisely the depth that the profile previously lacked. While the market often reduces this strain to a superficial "Cookies glint," we have focused on the genetic signature that defines "Cookie-Gas": a pungent, pure chemical note that, through our fusion with OG #18, now unfolds its full, aggressive potential. We use the precise structure of the original as a platform to optimally showcase the "gas foundation" of our OG #18 selection.
IV. The Urban Seedlab Selection: OG #18 Fusion
The PowerzzzUp cut and OG #18 simply complement each other perfectly. There is no fruity sweetness; we get a pure OG dank profile on the outstanding structure of Gary Payton. This combination is a real game-changer: Gary Payton tames the OG stretch, ensures significantly better yields, and makes the genetic noticeably less nitrogen-sensitive in feeding than OG #18 in its pure form. The result is not a simple hybrid, but a synergistic connection that redefines our definition of "dank."
V. Terpene Architecture: The Gas Fusion of Sesquiterpenes
Nitro Payton delivers a long-lasting "gas punch" through a targeted tuning of sesquiterpenes:
- Beta-Caryophyllene & Humulene: These heavier molecules act as an aromatic anchor. They provide the intense, solvent-like base that defines the typical "gas smell."
- The Gas Profile: Since we forego fruity monoterpenes, the earthy sulfur compounds (thiols) of OG #18 dominate. This creates the unmistakable aroma of burnt diesel and damp forest floor, which remains stable and present even after curing.
VI. The Nitro Effect: Neuronal Depth
Nitro Payton uses the entourage effect for specific physical modulation. Unlike modern dessert strains, which often lead to a quick but fleeting high, the cannabinoids here synergistically interact with the gassy terpene matrix: the high THC content is efficiently modulated by caryophyllene, which eliminates "brain fog." The result is a full-bodied, long-lasting stone feeling that maintains meditative clarity – a functional, heavy high that makes the OG renaissance palpable.
VII. Grow Insights: Precision in OG Dynamics
- Vegetative Phase: Due to the Gary Payton genetics, the growth pattern is much more controlled. The stretch in the first three weeks of flowering remains moderate and manageable.
- Flowering Phase & Nutrient Management: Nitro Payton is significantly more tolerant of nitrogen than classic OG #18. Nevertheless: less is more. To fully develop the gassy sulfur profiles, we recommend gradually reducing N intake from week 4.
- Yield & Extraction: The yield far exceeds classic OG #18. Due to the sesquiterpene stability, the strain is excellent for high-quality extractions such as live rosin, with the "gas profile" significantly enhanced in the concentrate.
VIII. Conclusion: The Status Quo of Nitro Payton
Nitro Payton is a tribute to the roots of our passion. We took the modern Gary Payton structure of the original PowerzzzUp cut and infused it with the soul of that OG legend that shaped our era. This strain defines the standard for modern "dank" hybrids: structure, uncompromisingness, and terpene loudness that needs no sweetness to convince. It is our answer to the question of depth and character in contemporary genetics.
